Foxfire Crier – posted 5/17/24
With Memorial Day weekend approaching, we am looking for volunteers willing
to take over the responsibility of putting up, taking down and storing the
American flags that you also see flying around Tie Road and Foxfire Village
on the Fourth of July and Veterans Day weekends.
For about 10 years now, Rose Munday and I have proudly enjoyed this
responsibility. Many of you may not be aware that this flag project was
begun by and paid for independently, by the now-defunct Foxfire Women’s
Association. It’s a private endeavor; it’s not affiliated with the Village
Council or the golf course. We position approximately 20 flags; it takes
about an hour; and when the flags are taken down and rolled up for storage,
they take up about as much space as a bag of golf clubs. They are currently
stored in my garage.
As much as Rose and I hate to admit it, our aging knees and backs are
starting to catch up with us, and we are looking to pass this tradition on
to another patriotic soul(s). It would be a nice little family project as
well! If you are interested, please email me at [email protected] and I
can provide further details.
Thank you, and a nice Memorial Day weekend to all.
Mary Novitsky and Rose Munday
