From the comments on Facebook, it looks like many people may have seen the first image of the splashpad and reacted before reading the full context, so I want to clarify my original intent. The Council had requested ideas for how the space could be used if the pool is determined to be past its lifespan and filled in. I understand why residents may hesitate to offer suggestions.
My goal was only to provide one practical option for residents to consider.
To be clear: the concept has always centered on a simple community building. The splash pad was an afterthought, an add-on option idea if residents were interested, and it’s clear that is not what most people want.
IF the pool is not rebuilt, it makes sense for residents to share what they would like to see in that space — or to say they prefer leaving it empty and saving the money. Council needs to hear what people want, and silence can be interpreted as residents having no preference.
The building concept shown was based on an approximately 2,800 sq ft open, flexible space with a large covered front porch, rockers, picnic tables, and outdoor ping‑pong. It was designed to be simple, durable, low‑maintenance, and usable year‑round across all age groups.
What the building could provide:
– Open, flexible space (scaled to budget)
– Pool table and casual recreation
– Card tables and game tables
– Comfortable seating areas
– Bookshelves and a small reading area
– Small kitchenette (sink, coffee, fridge — not a full kitchen)
– Large windows for natural light
– Front porch for everyday use and small gatherings
POTENTIAL USES / CLUBS
Card groups (bridge, Euchre, etc.)
Board games / checkers / chess
Book clubs / reading groups
Coffee meetups
Retiree / social groups
Walking group meet-up point
Small hobby groups (crafts, puzzles, art, etc.)
Informal neighborhood gatherings
Could be reserved for small gatherings just like the pavilion in our park is used.
This is simply a starting point for discussion if the pool is not rebuilt.
Nothing more, Just one idea
I hope people will continue to share their thoughts — whatever they may be — so Council has a clear understanding of what the community wants.
Interior image is for inspiration only — NOT TO SCALE. Final layout and spacing would be professionally designed.
